Review: When the monitor on my nearly five year old HP computer died yesterday, I was faced with finding a reasonably priced replacement that would fit in my limited space in a hurry. With wide-screen monitors being the norm, this would be a tall order and I was also worried about compatibility.
I found this Acer P201W at Walmart for just a couple of hundred bucks and I'm completely satisfied with it. It's a little wider than is optimal for my space, but I do like the wide-screen a lot and It has some very useful setting features, so that with just the press of a button you can optimize the settings according to whether you are viewing text, images, or videos. There is also a general setting and a manual overide. There were also no compatibility issues with my aged computer.
After I got the Acer P201W set up, I nearly freaked out, because I couldn't see any mechanism for adjusting the tilt, but after reading a review elsewhere, I took the leap of faith and grasped the monitor with both hands and pushed back on it until it did in fact tilt to just the right angle. The manual does say to do this, but the sticking point is that the mechanism is not obvious and I hate to break stuff I've just bought.
I can't really claim to know how this monitor stacks up against other monitors, except for the old one I had and maybe the ones I've used that belong to friends of mine.
It is my personal opinion, though, that not only is the Acer P201W an attractive unit, but that it has a good bright display that has plenty of range of settings for various tasks, as well as the very simple pre-programmed settings.
The print manual is very minimal, but it is intended only to get you up and running. The CD manual is more detailed, but it does require Acrobat Reader, so you might need to update your version to get it to work.
On the whole, there is nothing complicated about the Acer P201W operation and after a few tries anyone should be able to get everything to his liking.
The only negative I have noted is that there seems to be no adjustment for the height of the monitor. This is not a major issue, but it would be nice for me to raise it up an inch or two.

Review: After searching the internet and reading reviews on various websites, I decided to get this monitor.
I bought it to use in "extended desktop" mode with my 13" Macbook. I also bought the Mini-DVI to DVI adapter. The monitor comes with both a VGA and a DVI cable, which saves the expense of having to buy one in addition to buying a monitor.
The bottom line: I plugged everything in and it works! The Macbook recognized the display immediately and automatically set the resolution.
Color is bright and clear. Text is sharp. Graphics look great. NO DEAD OR STUCK PIXELS!
Physical setup was a breeze also. I read on some reviews that the stand was hard to get on, and wouldn't come off once it was put on. I do have an engineering degree, but it was very easy to put the stand on; and it will come off easily. It is held in place with two "dog-ear" style tabs accessible from the bottom. Just bend the tabs in, and off comes the stand!
I also tested the monitor with an Acer laptop running Windows Vista basic and the VGA cable; and it worked great with that, too.
This is a great monitor.

The monitor comes with a DVI cable, a VGA cable, and a DVI-to-VGA adapter, and the monitor has ports for both DVI and VGA. The power cable is detachable, making it easier for transport. And it's at a great price. I've owned this monitor for almost a year now with no issues. It's taken a bit of a beating, and there are no dead pixels on it yet.
The only complaint that I have is that the snap-in platform does not snap off easily. I like to keep my monitor boxes for easy transport in case I need to move my computer around, but the monitor stand is too big to allow for the monitor to be placed back into the box. I resorted to wrapping the monitor in some towels and carrying it by hand. A minor complaint overall.
